Springbok

The Springbok is a small antelope species and weighs approximately 30 kg. The Springbok has a reddish-brown coat with a dark stripe between this reddish brown and a white belly. They regulate their population themselves. The Springbok is the most common antelope in southern Africa and numbers in the hundreds of thousands.

Habitat
The Springbok is found only in southeastern Africa. The best habitats for springboks are drier, semi-desert regions such as the Karoo and the Kalahari. These are real herd animals and feed on grasses and leaves. They can survive with very little drinking water.

Breeding
Springboks are not bred and raised in captivity but are really wild game – real free-range animals!

Season
The hunting season lasts from March through August. Springboks are hunted by professional hunters, usually at night. Springbok is available year round. This meat is mainly frozen but can also be obtained fresh upon request.

Meat
Springbok meat is one of the most beautiful and one of the best kinds of meat you can get. The meat is a beautiful bright red and very finely textured. The flavour is exceptionally refined because the Springbok’s diet is composed of a very herbal mixture of grasses and leaves.

Cuts
Springbok meat is available in the following cuts: back filet, 4 cuts from the hind, boneless hind and goulash.
