The upper side of the body is dark reddish brown; the belly is white. Its coat turns a darker reddish to chestnut brown during the winter.
Habits
The Moufflon is a herd animal and selects the highest peaks in its environment as its habitat. Even so, they cannot survive without vegetation. They spend the days resting in dense deciduous vegetation or firs, leave in the evening to feed, and return again before dawn. Their food consists of tough grasses, heather, broom and the tips of fir branches. In the autumn, they eat acorns and beechnuts.
Gastronomy
The fairly well marbled meat of young animals can be prepared like that of venison as well as lamb. The meat of older animals will have to be marinated previous to further preparation.
